वेदों द्वारा देवी महामाया की स्तुति | Devi Mahamaya Stuti by Veda

Once on a time the eternal Deva Janârdana became tired after the terrible continuous battle for ten thousand years. After this the Lord Nârâyana seated Himself on Padmâsan (a kind of posture) in some lovely place on a level plot of ground and placing his head on the front of his bow with the bow strung and placed erect on the ground fell fast asleep. Visnu, the Lord of Ramâ, was exceedingly tired and thus he fell soon into deep sleep.At this time Indra and the other Devas, with Brahmâ and Mahesâ began a sacrifice.Then they, for the sake of success in Deva's well, went to the region of Vaikuntha to meet with the Deva Janârdana, the Lord of sacrifices. In order to wake him up, the eternal Deva Brahmâ ordered the white ants Vamrîs to cut the bow string.the Vamrî insect soon ate away the fore end of the bow that rested on the ground. Immediately the string gave way and the bow went up; the other end became free and a terrible sound took place. When the awful darkness disappeared, Brahmâ and Mahâdeva saw the disfigured
body of Visnu with its head off. 

Brahmâ said :-- “OVedas! Now go on and chant hymns to the Sacred Highest Devî Mahâmâyâ, who is Brahmâvidyâ, who brings all issues to their successful issues, who is hidden in all forms.” Below is the Hindi translation of the STUTI sung by Vedas to please the Devi Mahamayi.

वेदों ने कहा -- हे देवी आपको प्रणाम है, हे महामाया आपको प्रणाम है, हे मंगल करने वाली माता आपको प्रणाम है, हे जगत की रचना करने वाली आपको प्रणाम है। आप जो कि गुणों से भी परे हैं, सब पर राज्य करने वाली, हे माता आप ही ने शंकर की इच्छा पूर्ण की है, आप को झुक कर प्रणाम है। आप सब वस्तुओं का भण्डार हैं, आप ही   के  हैं, आप ही बुद्धि, लक्ष्मी, शोभा, क्षमा, शान्ति, श्रद्धा, मेधा, धृति और स्मृति हैं।

आप ही प्रणव ( ॐ ) के उपर बिंदु ( म ) हैं और आप ही अर्द्ध-चन्द्र हैं। आप ही सभी में गायत्री, आप ही व्यर्हिती, आप ही जया, विजया, धात्री, लज्जा, कीर्ति, इच्छा और दया हैं।
हे माता ! आप ही तीनों लोकों की दयालु माता हैं। आप ही सभी लोकों की आराध्य तथा उनका हित करने वाला शुभ ज्ञान हो। आप ही इस ब्रह्मांड का विनाश करने वाली हैं, आप ही बीज मन्त्रों में गुप्त रूप से रहने वाली हैं, इसलिए हम सब आप का गुणगान करते हैं। हे माता ! ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, महेश्वर, इन्द्र, सूर्य, अग्नि, सरस्वती और इस ब्रह्मांड के अन्य देव आप ही की रचना हैं; इसलिए उन में से कोई भी आप से अधिक श्रेष्ठ नहीं है। आप ही सभी चल और अचल पदार्थों की माता हैं।

हे माता ! जब आपकी इस ब्रह्मांड की रचना करने की इच्छा हुई तो आपने पहले ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और महेश्वर की रचना की और इन से ब्रह्मांड का सृजन, रक्षा और विनाश करवाया परन्तु आप स्वय इस संसार से स्वाधीन ही रही। आप सदा अपने नित्य स्वरूप में ही स्थित हैं। आप के स्वरूप ( प्रकृति ) का ज्ञान इस संसार में किसी को नहीं है और ना ही कोई आप के सभी नामों को गिना सकता है। हे भगवती ! देवों में से कोई भी आपकी अपार शक्ति और प्रभुता को नहीं जानता है। आप ही इस ब्रह्मांड की माता हैं।

सभी वेद इस बात के साक्ष्य हैं कि एकमात्र आप ही ने इसवास्तविक और क्षणभंगुर ब्रह्मांड की रचना करी है। हे देवी ! आप, परिवर्तनरहित हैं, और बिना किसी प्रयत्न और इच्छा के इस ब्रह्मांड का कारण बनी हैं। आप ने जिस प्रकार विपरीत तथा बहुरूपता से परिपूर्ण स्रष्टि की रचना की है। हे माता ! आप स्वय अपनी प्रकृति को नहीं जानती तो फिर हम ( वेद )  प्रकृति को कैसे जान सकते हैं। यह सत्य हमें व्यग्र कर रहा है। हे माता ! आप भगवान विष्णु के सिर के गिरने के बारे में कुछ नहीं जानती। या फिर आप भगवान विष्णु के कौशल की परीक्षा ले रही हैं। क्या विष्णु ने कोई जघन्य पाप किया है? परन्तु यह कैसे हो सकता है? जो आप की सेवा में तत्पर हैं उन्हें पाप कैसे हो सकता है? हे माता ! आप सब देवताओं से इस प्रकार उदासीन क्यों हैं? यह अत्यंत आश्चर्य है कि विष्णु का सिर कट गया है। यह वास्तव में हमारे लिए महान दुर्भाग्य है। आप अपने भक्तों के दुखों का नास करने में कुशल हैं। आप विष्णु का सिर पुण: उनके शरीर से जोड़ने में विलम्ब क्यों कर रही हैं।

हे देवी ! क्या देवताओं से आपका कोई अपराध हो गया है जिसका फल विष्णु को मिला है ? या फिर विष्णु को अभिमान हो गया था किस कारण उन्हें यह दंड मिला है? या फिर देत्यों ने अत्यंत रमणीय स्थान पर आपकी कठिन तपस्या करने के उपरान्त आपसे कोई वर प्राप्त किया है जिस के परिणाम स्वरूप विष्णु की यह दशा हुई है?

हे भगवती ! क्या आप विष्णु को बिना सिर के देखने के लिए उत्सुक थी जिस कारण यह घटना हुई है? हे परम शक्ति ! क्या आप सागर पुत्री लक्ष्मी पर क्रोधित हैं? नहीं तो आपने उन्हें अपने पति से वंचित क्यों किया। लक्ष्मी आपसे ही उत्पन्न हुई हैं इसलिए आपको उन्हें क्षमा कर देना चाहिए। इसलिए उनके पति को जीवन दे उन्हें प्रसन्न कीजिये।

सभी प्रमुख देवता आपकी सेवा करते हैं, आपको प्रणाम करते हैं। हे देवी ! हे दयालु ! हम पर दया करके भगवान विष्णु को जीवित कर हमारे दुखों का अंत करें। हे देवी ! हमें नहीं मालूम के श्री हरि का सिर कहाँ गया है, हमारा ओर कोई रक्षक नहीं हैं जो विष्णु को उनका जीवन लौटा सकता हो। हे देवी ! जिस प्रकार अमृत सभी देवों को जीवन प्रदान करता है, आप इस सम्पूर्ण जगत को जीवन प्रदान करें।

जय माता दी !

Below is the English Translation of the above Stuti:

The Vedas said :-- Obeisance to the Devî! to the Mahâmâyâ! to the Auspicious One! to the Creatrix of the Universe! We bow down to Thee, who is beyond the Gunas, the Ruler of all the Beings! O Mother! Thou givest to S’ankara even His desires. Thou art the receptacle of all the things; Thou art the Prâna of all the living beings; Thou art Buddhi, Laksmî (wealth), S’obhâ, Ks'hamâ (forgiveness), S’ânti (peace), Sraddhâ (faith), Medhâ (intellect), Dhriti (fortitude), and Smriti (recollection).

Thou art the vindu (m) over the Prânava (om) and thou art of the nature of semi-moon; Thou art Gâyattri, Thou art Vyârhiti; Thou art Jayâ, Vijayâ, Dhâtri (the supportress), Lajjâ (modesty), Kîrti (fame), Ichchâ (will) and Dayâ (mercy) in all beings.

O Mother! Thou art the merciful Mother of the three worlds; Thou art the adorable auspicious Vidyâ (knowledge) benefitting all the Lokas; Thou destroyest the Universe and Thou skilfully residest (hidden) in the Vîja mantras. Therefore we are praising Thee. O Mother! Brahmâ, Visnu, Mahes’vara, Indra, Sûrya, Fire, Sarasvatî and other Regents of the Universe are all Thy creation; so none of them is superior to Thee. Thou art the Mother of all the things, moving and non-moving.

O Mother ! When Thou dost will to create this visible Universe, Thou createst first Brahmâ, Visnu and Mahes'vara and makest them create, preserve and destroy this universe; but Thou remainest quite unattached to the world. Ever Thou remainest constant in Thy one form. No one in this Universe is able to know Thy nature; nor there is any body who can enumerate Thy names. How can he promise to jump across the illimitable ocean, who cannot jump across an ordinary well.

O Bhagavatî! No one amongst the Devas even knows particularly Thy endless power and glory. Thou art alone the Lady of the Universe and the Mother of the world.

The Vedas all bear testimony how thou alone hast created all this unreal and fleeting universe. O Devî! Thou without any effort and having no desires hast become the cause of this visible world, thyself remaining unchanged. This is a great wonder. We cannot conceive this combination of contrary varieties in one. O Mother! How can we understand thy power, unknown to all the Vedas even, when thou thyself dost not know thy nature! We are bewildered at this. O Mother! It is that thou dost know nothing about the falling off of the Visnu's head! Or knowingly thou wanted to examine Visnu's prowess. Is it that Hari incurred any heinous sin. How can that be! Where is sin to thy followers who serve Thee! O Mother! Why art Thou so much indifferent to the Devas! It is a great wonder that the head of Visnu is severed! Really, we are merged in great misfortunes. Thou art clever in removing the sorrows of Thy devotees. Why art Thou delaying in fixing again the head on Visnu's body.

O Devî! Is it that Thou taking offence on the gods hast cast that on Visnu! or was it that Visnu became proud and to curb that, Thou hast played thus! or is it that the Daityas, having suffered defeat from Visnu went and practised severe tapasya in some beautiful holy place, and have got some boons; and so Visnu's head has thus fallen off! Or is it, O Bhagavatî! that Thou wert very eagerly interested to see Visnu's headless body and therefore Thou hast seen thus! O Prime Force! Is it that Thou art angry on the daughter of the Sindhu (ocean); Laksmî Devî! Else, why hast Thou deprived Her of Her husband? Laksmî is born as a part of Thine; So Thou oughtest to forgive Her offence. Therefore dost Thou gladden Her by giving back Her husband's life.

The principal Devas, engaged in Thy service, always make their Prânams (bow down) to Thee; O Devî! Beest Thou kind enough and make alive the Deva Visnu, the Lord of all and crossest us across this ocean of sorrows. O Mother! We cannot make out anything whatsoever where Hari's head has gone. We have no other protectress than Thee who canst give back His life? O Devî! Dost Thou give life to the whole world as the nectar gives life to all the Devas.
